Products to Avoid When you Have a Spray Tan

Picture
This is a list of commonly used products that are known to not play well with spray tans.

The products I call out below can lighten, make blotchy or strip your spray tan.

Things to AVOID after your spray tanning session:

  • lotion that contains mineral oils
  • body wash & shower gels that contains sulfates (SLS)
  • dove soap products
  • acne products
  • anti-aging products
  • make-up removers
  • retin A
  • wax hair removers
  • body hair bleach
  • toners containing witch hazel or alcohol
  • facial masks
  • insect repellent
  • petroleum or mineral oils
  • deodorant soaps
  • acids: AHA or AlphaHydroxy, BetaHydroxy, Salicylic, Lactic, Glycolic
  • exfoliating scrubs, mitts, loofah (use hands or soft cloth to rinse)

Shaving exfoliates the skin therefore fading the tan. Clients should use a new and clean razor with a lubricating product such as hair conditioner. Wash off conditioner when done. A dull razor will scrape off the tan.

Women’s tans may also develop differently during various hormonal occurrences (ovulation, menstruation, pregnancy). It may be a streaky, patchy, fade worse or produce a lighter or no color.
